A beta-alanina é um aminoácido não essencial, ou seja, um aminoácido que o nosso organismo consegue produzir naturalmente no fígado. Ao contrário da maioria dos aminoácidos, ela não é usada pelo organismo para sintetizar proteínas.

Ela é usada pelo nosso corpo juntamente com histidina para produzir carnosina.

A carnosina reduz o acúmulo de ácido lático nos músculos durante o exercício físico, o que pode levar uma melhoramento do desempenho atlético através da redução da fadiga muscular (1, 2). Como suplemento, a beta-alanina serve para melhorar o desempenho físico e usada para evitar a fadiga muscular e para melhorar o desempenho em exercícios de alta intensidade. (HIIT)

Como ela funciona

Em nossos tecidos musculares, os níveis de histidina são geralmente elevados enquanto que os níveis de beta-alanina baixos, o que limita a produção de carnosina. Os alimentos mais ricos em beta-alanina são carne bovina, aves e peixes.
